THE decomposed body of a pensioner who was reported missing since Thursday, January 10, 2019, was on Sunday fished out of the Lamaha Canal, Durban Backlands, Georgetown.

Dead is Cyril Nova Persaud, 76, of Lot 45 Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara. The body was discovered by residents in the Durban Backlands area.

Reports indicate that several feet away from his body, police found an NIS pension book which revealed his identity. There was no word in relation to any marks of violence about the body.

The decomposed body was taken to the Lyken Funeral home.

An autopsy done on Monday gave the cause of death as brain hemorrhage due to a series of blunt trauma to the head, compounded by compression injuries to neck. Additionally, there was blunt trauma to the abdomen and bleeding from the nostrils.

Since Persaud’s disappearance, his children, who reside overseas, have been trying to locate him through family members in Guyana.
