IT was a day when learning took centre stage for the Guyanese as round one of the Junior Caribbean Karting Academy Trophy (JCKAT) closed off in Barbados.
The two-day event, which continues today, saw Barbados’ Calem Maloney win the final, following a lengthy day of driving.

There were mixed results for the Guyanese, Nathan Rahaman narrowly missing the final after having to change a bent rear axle.
Zachary Persaud had mechanical issues on the formation lap and fell out while there was a mid-pack battle between Rayden Persaud and Jeremy Ten-Pow earlier.

In the end, the winner of the round was Maloney, winning from Mallalieu and Chisholm, with Jeremy finishing 7th, Rayden 8th, Elan 9th, Paige 11th and Nathan and Zachary falling out.

Earlier in the day, Maloney qualified on pole for the first pre-final with Barbadian Adam Mallalieu second and Jamaica’s Ryan Chisolm third.
Guyana’s Rayden Persaud was able to qualify fifth, with Elan Rahaman 8th, Zachary Persaud ninth, Jeremy Ten-Pow tenth, Nathan 11th and Paige Mendonca 12th.

In the first of the three races, it was Maloney who picked up the win ahead of Gore and Mallalieu. Jeremy Ten-Pow was able to fight his way back up to sixth with Zachary finishing ninth, Rayden 10th, Nathan 11th and Elan 13th and Paige 14th.

The second race which featured an inverse top six of qualifying saw Gore winning ahead of Chisholm and Mallalieu with Rayden Persaud picking up Guyana’s best fifth-place finish.
Jeremy placed 8th, Elan 9th, Zachary 12th, Nathan 13th and Paige 14th.

In the third race, Maloney won ahead of Mallalieu and Gore, with Rayden finishing the first of the Guyanese in 7th, Zachary 8th, Jeremy 9th, Elan 10th, Paige 12th and Nathan falling out.
Late last evening, the second round configuration was done for round two and free practice took place.
