RORAIMA Galacticos and Trinidad and Tobago’s Morvant Caledonia United played an entertaining game in the GFF/ExxonMobil Futsal championship finals, but in the end, it was the team from Brazil who will return home with the inaugural title and the $1.2M first-place prize, following their 4 – 1 win at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Played in the wee hours of the morning of New Year’s Eve, an almost capacity crowd witness what was the best game of the eight-team tournament, as the ‘Trinis’ were guilty of squandering several clear-cut chances in their attempt to do what every other team failed to do – beat the Brazilians.

After playing to a goalless first half, the Brazilian club got the go-ahead goal in the 25th minute in a rather controversial manner, with the Trinidadians furiously protesting that Lucas Martins’ strike did not past Marvin Phillips’ goal line and should not have been counted.

The controversial goal! Lucas Martins’ opening goal of the game that caused an uproar by the Trinidadians since they thought that the ball did not cross the goal line.

But things would go the Brazilians way five minutes later when Arckson Andreazza converted his effort. A minute later, Maxivon Carvalho made it 3 – 0.

Jomal Williams brought the Trinidadians back into the game in the 35th minute when he scored from the penalty spot after Roraima Galacticos picked up their 6th team foul.

Raphael Lopes, in the 40th minute, would put the icing on the cake for Roraima Galacticos as they celebrated their title with fans.

For their valiant effort, Morvant Caledonia United went home with $600,000 and in the third-place game, Georgetown All-Stars trashed Team Guyana 13-7, with a hat-trick of goals from Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Jeremy Garrett and Pernell Schultz.

Schultz netted in the sixth, eighth and 17th minutes, and Richardson, who opened the scoring in the game, followed up with goals in the 24th and 29th minutes, alongside a hat-trick from Jeremy Garrett in the 10th, 24th and 37th minutes, to win the $300,000 prize.

Hubert Pedro scored in the fifth and 13th minute and Ryan Hackett hammered in a double of his own in the 21st and 30th minutes.

Darren Benjamin (15th and 18th), Andrew Murray (3rd), Rudy Halley (11th), Daniel Wilson (12th), Jermin Junior (22nd) and Colin Nelson (34th), were the other scorers for the Guyana side.

With the win, Georgetown All-Stars pocketed $300,000 and a trophy, while the loser collected $100,000 and a trophy.

Lopes picked up the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade and the Highest Goal Scorer title, while Devon Charles of Georgetown All-Stars was named the Best Goal-Keeper of the tournament.
