Woman kills husband during row

A YOUNG businessman, Victor Roberts, was killed on Sunday afternoon during an argument between him and his reputed wife who stabbed him in the region of the heart.

The incident took place at Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara. The police in a statement said that the incident took place around 13: 00hrs. Based on information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, the couple had been sharing a relationship for some time and they have one child. Reports are that the couple frequently had fights. On Sunday there was another round of argument and the woman picked up a knife and stabbed the 38-year-old Roberts who ran out of the yard and collapsed on the roadway.

An alarm was raised, the police were summoned and they took the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. During a visit to the crime scene, the police returned with the female suspect as she walked investigators through the paces of what actually took place that led to the stabbing incident. This is not the first time that the woman inflicted a stab wound on the man based on the information, this newspaper received.

According to a relative who spoke with this newspaper some time ago, the woman and the man had an argument and she stabbed him in the lower abdomen and he had been hospitalised for a prolonged period. However after he became well and was able to leave the hospital he opted not to give any evidence against the woman and the matter was struck out. At the scene on Sunday, family members gathered mostly in their church clothing as they were attending church when they received the information and news about the stabbing incident.

Police detectives who turned up at the scene could be seen combing the area for what is suspected to be the murder weapon. Up to press time it was unclear if the weapon was recovered. The police are said to be continuing their investigations into this matter.
