A 34-year-old chef attached to the Guyana Pegasus will be stirring the pot for the next four years behind bars after he was jailed on Monday for drug trafficking.

Hosania Moses of Fort Street Kingston, Georgetown made his appearance before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman and admitted to the charge when it was read to him saying he did not want to waste the court’s time. He was also fined $1.8M.

Moses confessed that between November 14, 2018 and November 16, 2018 at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation he had 888 grams of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

“I’m sorry for my negligence,” Moses said, while his attorney Everton Singh-Lammy begged the magistrate to be lenient.

According to the facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Inspector Arvin Moore, on the day in question, ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport intercepted Moses who was a passenger of Surinam Airways.

He was searched and no drugs were found in his possession. The ranks noticed that Moses was acting in a suspicious manner and he was questioned on whether he had ingested drugs.

Moses admitted and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he underwent an X-ray. The machine showed that Moses had foreign objects in his stomach. Within the next few days Moses excreted 89 pellets with cocaine inside. He was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters where he admitted ownership of the drugs.
