TEAM Coco wheelsman and veteran cyclist, Junior Niles, rolled back the years to cop the 19th edition of the Diamond Mineral Water 46-mile road race over at West Demerara yesterday.

In his impressive victory, Niles trimmed 33 minutes off last year’s winning time (2 hours 14 minutes set by Jamaul John) clocking a blistering one hour, 41 minutes and 25.47 seconds to cross the finish line ahead of second placed Akeem Wilkinson.

Deoraj Garbarran claimed third spot while fourth to sixth were occupied by Paul DeNobrega, Michael Anthony and Warren McKay, in that order.

Of the eight primes (sprint prizes) up for grabs, Wilkinson, Garbarran, Kemuel Moses and Niles shared them at two apiece.

In addition to being the overall winner, Niles was also the top Veteran rider, while McKay was second and Alexis Mendes third.

In the Mountain Bike category, Ozia McAulay made it two in a row,  copping first prize while Jamal Cappel and Talim Shaw settled for second and third respectively.

Adealie Hodge was the top junior cyclist, ahead of second placed Emmanuel Gayral and Briton John in third.

At the presentation ceremony, a representative of DDL was on hand to present trophies and cash prizes.

The race began at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, proceeded to Bushy Park and then returned to the point of origin for the finish. The event, now in its 19th year, was organised by national cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed, and sponsored by DDL through its Diamond Mineral Water brand.
