Werk-en-Rust woman remanded for ganja possession

ROSLYN Barclay, 25, of Hardina Street, Werk -en -Rust, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday, charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The charge alleges that on November 15, 2018, at Lot EE Hardina Street , Werk- en- Rust, Barclay had in her possession 650 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The woman, who was unrepresented by counsel, denied the charge that was read to her by the magistrate.

According to the particulars of the offence, the police on the day in question acting on information, went to the defendant’s house where a search was conducted on her person and on the house; but the narcotic was not found. However, a search was then conducted in the defendant’s shop where the drug was found in a black plastic bag.

Police prosecutor Harris objected to bail on account of the seriousness of the offence; the magistrate upheld the prosecutor’s objection and bail was denied. Barclay was therefore remanded to prison until December 14, 2018.
