Preliminary results show major parties’ dominance on EBD

PRELIMINARY results from Local Government Elections on the East Bank of Demerara have shown strong performances by both major parties- A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).

With three Local Authority Areas (LAAs) still outstanding, PPP/C has thus far won a total of 20 seats, while APNU collected 16 seats and the Alliance For Change (AFC) claimed one.
In Lamaha/Yarrowkabra where there are four constituencies, the PPP’s Nazearand Barnwell and Finton Ragonauth secured seats in Constituencies Two and Four respectively; APNU’s Sheldon Seabra and William Ramlall won seats in One and Three, respectively.

Over in Soesdyke/Huist Coverden the APNU won five seats and the PPP four with APNU’s winners being Quintyn Wright, Tethram Persaud and Malika Thomas. The PPP’s candidates were Samantha Gopie, Mohabir Misir, Veronicca Aeron, Kalowtee Persaud and Misir Rohoni. The parties also shared a tie.

In Herstelling/ Little Diamond the PPP snatched eight seats represented by candidates Dax Ferdinand Alli, Mahendra Roopnarine, Puneet Jaigopaul, Satya Anand Sooknarine, Lakeraj Ryan Mahadeo, Bibi Nazeela Arjune, Bansraj Sureandra and Khemraj Nishawn Singh.
The APNU took only one seat in this LAA in Constituency Seven which was won by Margaret Ann Kennedy.

In Mocha-Arcadia the tables turned as APNU took the lead with five seats won by candidates Andre Murray, Nima Flue-Bess, Terrence Rudolph, Raeburn Jones, Vanetta Bradshaw and Sharon Stewart.

The PPP did not win any seat in this LAA while the AFC secured one seat in the area. In Eccles/Ramsburg the PPP won six seats and were represented by candidates Hafeez Mahamad, Ronald R. Sarjoo, Sugrim Gangaram, ChaitnarinePersaud, Imtiaz A.M. Isahack, Totoram Persaud and Ramesh and Seepaul Narine.

Meanwhile, the APNU won three seats by candidates Rochell M, Hopkinson and Winston F. Stoby. The LAAs yet to be tallied as of Wednesday, November 14 are Hauraruni/Yarrowkabra; Good Success/Caledonia and Diamond Place/Golden Grove.
