A 25-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after colliding with a cow on the Number 55 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice on Wednesday evening.

Dead is Ravindra Nazamoodin called “Akash”, a welder/fabricator of
Number 57 Village, East Berbice Corentyne. The incident occurred at around 21:10hrs as Nazamoodin was on his way home on his motorcycle bearing registration CF 5667.

According to his wife Neeta Devi Jairam called “Deana”, Nazamoodin left home on Wednesday afternoon to look for one of his workers to complete a job.

The young woman explained that he did not return home immediately but she received a call minutes after 21:00hrs informing her that her husband was involved in an accident and she must visit the Skeldon Hospital.

“I was only told he hit and cow so I packed a few clothes thinking that they will admit him but when I reach I couldn’t believe what I see, my husband lifeless body lay down and a stretcher,” Jairam related.

In tears, she described her husband as a very caring, willing and hardworking individual.

According to information, the motorcyclist was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Public Road when he collided with a dark-brown cow and sustained injuries to the head.

Nazamoodin was picked up and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The animal that was hit was found the following day in the community. Due to the severity of the impact, Nazamoodin’s helmet was shattered.

When the Guyana Chronicle visited Nazamoodin’s home, family members were trying to come to grips with the tragic news. Many described the young man as “industrious”.

Police are working to ascertain the owner of the cow as they continue their investigation.
