SACHIN Singh blasted a quick-fire half-century to lead the Rising Stars Cricket Club to the semi-finals of the inaugural Major Premier League (MPL) T20 cricket competition.

The competition, which attracted 16 teams, is being played at several venues on the West Coast of Demerara.

Singh scored 54 from 45 balls to lift his side in their run chase past home team Meten-Meer-Zorg on Tuesday.

Meten-Meer-Zorg batted first and scored 114 all out in 19.3 overs after off-spinner Mavin Cheong and left-arm spinner Shane Persad took 3-20 and 2-19 respectively. Sheldon Alexander led the home side with 33 runs (1×4, 2x6s).

In reply, Singh, who opened the batting, smashed four fours and a similar number of sixes to lead the Rising Stars to 120-4 from 16 overs. Support came from Nickosi Major, who smashed two sixes and a four to finish with 20 runs from nine balls.

Sewchan and J. Maxwell finished with two wickets each for the home team.
