… feels Bobb was the ‘X’ factor

THE Turks and Caicos Islands senior national coach Matt Barnes was impressed with his counterpart’s plan last Saturday when the Golden Jaguars visited the island of Providenciales for their CONCACAF Nations League qualifying clash.

“Golden Jaguars were very good on the day. I was impressed with the job Michael Johnson (Guyana’s national coach) has done with the squad. They had a clear plan to try to manage us in our own half. I thought they possessed the ball well and played direct enough when it counted.”

Golden Jaguars won 8-0 after three goals each from Sheldon Holder and Emery Welshman, but Barnes feels that Trayon Bobb was the catalyst that engineered the big win.
“I think the game is a different one if they don’t have an in-form Trayon Bobb. I felt that he was the most impactful player on the pitch.”

The former US Premier Development League coach said that although the left-winger only found the back of the net once, he was instrumental in three of the first five goals. He said that the home team had a game plan for the 24-year-old, after watching him in previous games, but it did not go as planned.

“We knew his tendencies, had a specific way to manage him and he still killed us. He’s a very good player in my opinion.”

Along with Bobb, Barnes said that the Guyanese goalie also made very “good decisions,” which were ably supported by a large crowd support for the visitors.

Although TCI are the lowest-ranked by FIFA, Barnes feels that experiences such as last Saturday against a quality team such as Golden Jaguars can only help them advance.
