Linden students received assistance with transportation cost

REGION Ten’s top twelve National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) students on Thursday each received $208, 340 from Minister of State Joseph Harmon, which is to assist them with their transportation costs to attend secondary school in Georgetown. The presentation was done at Congress Place and in his address to the students and their parents, Minister Harmon encouraged them to take their education seriously. He reminded them that they are an important asset for the future development of their country and that they should take all the opportunities afforded to them to learn and enhance their knowledge, skills and experiences.

He also thanked his friends who made the monetary contributions after pledging to do same at a meeting held in Linden in July. Contributions like those he said, coincide with President David Granger Five B’s initiative which is done to ensure more of our nation’s children have access to education.

Member of Parliament, Jermaine Figueira who transported the children to Georgetown and who also played an integral role in the children receiving $1.5M from BK International, which was also incorporated into the contributions on Thursday, expressed satisfaction that the parents were given some assistance for their children’s transportation expenses.
One parent Rayann Jacobis said that she is grateful for the monetary support and expressed appreciation to all those who played a part in making it possible.

The transportation cost from Linden to Georgetown is $20, 000 per month. After some parents expressed difficulty in being able to afford this, public spirited persons decided to contribute to aid these parents in this regard.
