GRACE Kennedy Money Services (GKMS), the agent of Western Union in Guyana, is celebrating 25 years of dedicated service to the country and, as part of its observance of this milestone the entity is assisting the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in its bid for supremacy, in the Caribbean Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships, currently taking place in the Dominican Republic.

The GTTA has assembled 16 of its most talented, disciplined, scholastically-inclined and brightest players to represent the country at these games and has reached out to corporate Guyana for assistance in sending the young charges to the August 24 to September 1 championships.

According to GTTA president, Godfrey Munroe, the players selected represent the next generation and nursery of Guyana’s future champions.

The players have been consistent in tournaments, while demonstrating great work ethics at a tender age. “We believe that our Boys’ 13 years-and-under team includes a very formidable group of players who are strong candidates for medal performances and selection to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Hopes programme,” Munroe stated.

To this end Grace Kennedy Money Services presented a sponsorship cheque to the association prior to the team’s departure for the Dominican Republic. The sponsorship will assist in the air fare and accommodation of a team member, who is also fulfilling his dream of representing the Golden Arrowhead.

The presentation was made by Western Union’s Marketing Assistant, Tina Seabra to GTTA treasurer Nkechi McRae and other members of the team at the GKMS office on Water Street, Georgetown.

The Caribbean Cadet and Junior Championships is for girls and boys between ages 11 and 13 years-and-under in the Caribbean region.

lt is a signature competition on the GTTA’s and Caribbean’s calendar of events, since it forms the basis for regional table tennis supremacy and incubator for the development of young emerging table tennis talents – the platform from which all of the region’s table tennis stars commence their journey.
