– Region 10’s Asher Marks urges others preparing to write CAPE

MACKENZIE High’s Asher Marks is Region Ten’s top performer at the Caribbean Advancement Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

He achieved a Grade One in Caribbean Studies, Grade Twos in Accounting Unit Two and Economics Unit Two, and a Grade Three in Management of Business. This adds to Asher’s four other CAPE subjects that he sat last year while in Lower Six. He’d also topped the region last year by obtaining a Grade One in Communication Studies; Grade Two in Management of Business; Grade Three in Economics; and a Grade Four in Accounting Unit One.

Asher, who was the region’s top achiever at CSEC as well back in 2016, says he’s very elated about his achievement, given the amount of hard work he’s had to put in during the last year. “Writing CAPE is not easy,” he said. “It requires a lot of hard work and dedication. So to be able to come out successful, I am very proud of that.”
He also credits his success to the overwhelming support from family and peers, which helped steer him in the right direction. Again, he could not have done it without the help of God and the dedicated teachers at Mackenzie High, particularly his lessons teacher, Mr. Colin Lucky.

And now that he’s done with CAPE, Asher will be going on to further his studies in Economics at the University of Guyana. His advice to upcoming CAPE students is don’t be afraid of the word ‘advanced’, but to remain focussed just as they did for CSEC, and they will likewise be successful. For years, Mackenzie High was the only school in Region 10 that had a Sixth Form, but come September, Christianburg Wismar Secondary (CWSS) will rise to that status, but will still keep focus on the vocational field.
