DESPITE leading by two points and a better net run rate, there is definitely no overwhelming favourites in today’s clash of match eleven of the Hero Caribbean Premier League T20 game between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs at Lauderhill, Florida.

Chris Green will play his final game for the season, having replaced Cameron Delport for the first four matches of the tournament.

The Tallawahs maintain their perfect start to CPL 2018, after they recorded their third straight win on Thursday evening and currently sit at the top of the points table with six points and a NRR of 0.969.

The Warriors have four points from three games and a NRR of 0.042, but they are arguably one of the best-rounded team this season.

However, what makes the clash even more interesting will be the real test of firepower. Definitely the battle will be fought out between some of the most accomplished T20 players in the world.

The Warriors have a devastating batting lineup in Chadwick Walton and Luke Ronchi at the top. They also have in their ranks the enigmatic Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford along with the reliable Shoaib Malik and Jason Mohammed, who can decimate any attack, but their opponents have a batting card which can be equally dominating.

It’s a new-look Jamaica Tallawahs side for the 2018 season. They are without former captain Kumar Sangakkara and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who’ve both opted out of this year’s CPL. They’ve lost all three of Lendl Simmons, Kesrick Williams and Mohammad Sami to the St Lucia Stars as well.

The loss of Sangakkara has left a huge hole to fill, but Black Caps veteran Ross Taylor had

filled that spot with ease. Taylor brings a wealth of experience which will definitely benefit Jamaica as the tournament progresses.

Glenn Phillips, Kennar Lewis, Johnson Charles and Rovman Powell, complete a formidable batting lineup for the two-time champions.

Then there’s the captain – Andre Russell, who has been prolific so far this season.

Russell, who missed last year’s CPL due to a doping-related ban, is a huge signing for Jamaica this season, he has played the role of a strike bowler and middle-lower order finisher with the bat, which he has already proved.

Both teams boast of an enviable bowling lineup with the Warriors having some handy bowlers up their sleeves in the form of Sohail Tanvir, Keemo Paul, Rayad Emrit and spinners Chris Green and danger man Imran Tahir, while the Tallawahs comprise Oshane Thomas, Adam Zampa, Samuel Badree, Imad Wasim and Kemar Roach, along with CPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker, Krishmar Santokie.

From a spectator’s point of view, both teams just got many X-factors jammed into one line-up, making them a complete package going into today’s encounter. This will definitely be a fascinating match-up between two teams who should be competing for the crown at the end of the tournament.
