TELECOMMUNICATION giant Digicel yesterday hosted a youth cricket camp for 80 students of the West Demerara Secondary School.

Hosted as part of its CPL Youth series at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda, the event was facilitated by West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and other coaches.

Bishoo, who is getting ready to take on Bangladesh tomorrow in the first of two one day internationals here, contended that he and the coaches are more than happy to host the initiative.

“As I said, I always enjoy spending time with the kids. It’s always an honour to share my knowledge and turn up to these events because one day, I was like them and I never used to meet many West Indies players so I know the feeling.”

Speaking on behalf of DIGICEL, Guyana’s Corporate Communications Officer, Vidya Sanichara contended that the company is always willing to support youth development

“We know that cricket is something that does that, It brings the community and the youths together, both internationally and regionally and in the community. This is our grassroots way of giving back to the students who are here today.”

She contended that the event, an annual fixture of the company, is scheduled to continue in the future.
