A TWENTY-five-year-old driver was on Friday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Leron Daly for possession of an illegal firearm.

Jason Prince of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara denied that on July 17 at Georgetown he had in his possession a .32 revolver when he was not a licensed firearm holder.

He was represented by attorney-at-law Dexter Todd who told the court that the gun was not found on his client.

According to Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch during a sting operation intercepted the motor car in which Prince was travelling and found the gun in his possession.

The prosecution objected to bail being granted to the accused citing the seriousness of the charge.

Prince was remanded to prison until August 24.
