A 17-year-old Venezuelan was Friday sentenced to six months’ jail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for simple larceny
Luis Marques, with the aid of an interpreter, confessed that between July 1, 2018 and July 2, 2018, he stole $410,000 cash from Sabrina Johnson.

While disclosing the facts to the court, Police Prosecutor Inspector Gordon Mansfield told the court Johnson was the owner of a general store which was located at the Port Kaituma waterfront.

During the dates mentioned in the charge, the teen reportedly went to the woman’s shop to buy a haversack. Johnson, while selling him, stepped out of the shop for a few seconds.
On her return, Marques paid for his bag and went away. The businesswoman later saw that money was missing from her day’s sales and reported the matter to the police.

Marques was arrested and when searched, the money was found in his possession.
The chief magistrate sentenced Marques to six months’ jail, after which he will be deported.
