Khalil highlights Friday night action

The 2018 Rainforest Waters Senior National Squash Championships continued on Friday night at the Georgetown Club Courts with the four quarter -finals in the Men’s Open, the lone remaining Women’s quarter-final match and matches in the Men’s Veterans, Men’s Plate and Women’s Plate.

The top four seeds in the Men’s Open draw all progressed in straight games to the semifinals which were scheduled for last night.
However, the match of the night saw Jason-Ray Khalil had to overcome a testing challenge from top junior player Shomari Wiltshire.
First on court was No. 2 seed Richard Chin who defeated Robert Fernandes in straight games 11 – 6, 11 – 6, 11 – 5.

Defending champion Alex Arjoon was next on court against former Junior Caribbean champion Damian Da Silva. Arjoon won the first game 11 – 4, and then took an even closer second game 11 – 8. He closed out the match with an emphatic 11 – 1 win in the third game.

Jason-Ray Khalil was next on court against Shomari Wiltshire. Jason won the first game 11- 6. The second game went back and forth with Wiltshire having two game balls at 10 – 9 and again at 12 – 11 but Khalil eventually prevailed 14 – 12.

The furious pace of the second game took its toll on both players but more on Wiltshire as Khalil easily won the third game 11 – 2. The battle between former national champions Nyron Joseph and Regan Pollard was comfortably won in straight games by Joseph 11 – 6, 11 – 5, 11 – 6.

In the last of the Women’s quarter final matches, two junior players Abosaide Cadogan and Sarah Lewis were pitted against each other with Cadogan easily winning the match 11 – 3, 11 – 6, 11 – 3.

The match up in the Men’s semifinals will see defending champion Alex Arjoon taking on Jason-Ray Khalil while No.2 seed Richard Chin comes up against Nyron Joseph.
In the Women’s semis Mary Fung-A-Fat will play Abosaide Cadogan while Ashley Khalil will battle against Taylor Fernandes.

Results of the matches played on Friday evening are as follows.
Men’s Open
Alex Arjoon beat Damian Da Silva 11 – 4, 11 – 8, 11 – 1.
Richard Chin beat Robert Fernandes 11 – 6, 11 – 6, 11 – 5.
Jason-Ray Khalil beat Shomari Wiltshire 11 – 6, 14 – 12, 11 – 2.
Nyron Joseph beat Regan Pollard 11 – 6, 11 – 5, 11 – 6.

Women’s Open
Abosaide Cadogan defeated Sarah Lewis 11 – 3, 11 – 6, 11 – 3.

Men’s Plate
Samuel Ince-Carvalhal beat Joshua Abdool 11 – 9, 11 – 3, 11 – 5.
Johnathan Antczak beat Gianni Carpenter 11 – 6, 11 – 4, 11 – 8.

Women’s Plate
Kirsten Gomes beat Madison Fernandes 12 – 10, 7 – 11, 6 – 11, 11 – 7, 11 – 8.

Men’s Veterans Over 35
Garfield Wiltshire defeated Tony Farnum 11 – 4, 11 – 5, 11 – 2.
Brian Yong beat Lloyd Fung-A-Fat 11 – 6, 11 – 3, 11 – 4.
