PRINCIPAL Magistrate Judy Latchman on Friday remanded a 49-year-old miner to prison for allegedly raping a 40-year-old woman.

The charge against Cedrick Anderson, of Berbice, alleges that on June 25, 2018 at Mazaruni River, he sexually penetrated a 40-year-old woman without her consent. He was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded to prison until July 3.

According to reports, the woman, who works as a cook at the same mining camp as the accused, was raped by Anderson who pounced upon her with a cutlass.
