MINISTER within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson, on Wednesday received a courtesy call from Matthew Cummings, a representative of the Transport Security Administration (TSA) of the United States.

Cummings is responsible for the Caribbean Region and has been in Guyana with his team since January conducting an audit of the aviation sector, a release from the ministry said. The Transportation Security Administration is an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that has authority over the security of the travelling public in the United States. It was created as a response to the September 11 attack.

The courtesy call comes on the heels of Guyana getting ready to host the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Air Transport Conference November 21- 23. Representatives from approximately 192 countries are expected in Guyana for this historic and momentous occasion. The ministry’s release also made mention that Guyana will soon complete the over US$150M expansion project of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Joining the minister during the courtesy visit was Egbert Field, Director-General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA); Ramis Ghir, Chief Executive Officer of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport; Leon Castello, Personal Assistant to the Minister and Cameba Bayley- Sundar, Aviation Security Inspector – GCAA.
