Fine, community service for youth with drugs

A YOUNG man on Tuesday appeared before a city magistrate charged with possession of marijuana.
The charge alleged that on June 15, 2018 Simon Shepherd had in his possession 21.5 grammes of ‘ganja.’

The 20 year-old miner who resides at ‘B’ Field, Sophia, pleaded guilty to the charge that was read out to him in court.

According to the facts that were presented in court by the police prosecutor, on the day in question police ranks of the Bartica Station were on patrol duty when they noticed the defendant acting in a suspicious manner. As a result a search was carried out on him and they discovered the marijuana in a green shoulder bag he was carrying.

He was arrested and taken to the Bartica Station.
Shepherd was fined $75, 000 by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who also ordered that he perform four months of community service.
