Stole friend’s money to purchase ‘stuff’ for his kids

A 35-YEAR-OLD man was Monday sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Judy Latchman on a simple larceny charge.

The charge alleged that between April 6 and June 17, 2018 at Durban Street, Georgetown, Winston Marshal stole a quantity of gold jewellery valued G$847,900; $200.00 in Guyana dollars; and US$300 currency.

The father of three who was a former security guard pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Arvin Moore in presenting the facts to the court said that the virtual complainant and the defendant are known to each other and share a relationship together.

The victim had secured the said articles in a suitcase in her room and on June 17, 2018 when she checked her suitcase she discovered the articles missing. As a result she questioned the defendant who admitted to taking the articles to pay off his debts and to purchase “stuff” for his children.

A report was made and the defendant was arrested.
