Mike Parris Schoolboys and Juniors tourney box off today at `Six Head’ gym

THE third Mike Parris Schoolboys and Juniors Amateur Boxing Championships will box-off today from 13:00hrs at the Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis Gym, located at Callender and Independence Boulevard, Albouystown.

The event promises to be exciting and action-packed as the country’s younger pugilists face off in three two-minute rounds in each of the 15 bouts scheduled for the day.
The event is being staged by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), which is upping its concentration on its nursery in the next two months, beginning with today’s tournament.

It all leads up to the Third Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors Championships set to be held here in Guyana from August 17 to 19.

According to GBA president Steve Ninvalle, today’s tournament will be organised by AIBA’s Three-Star qualified coach Sebert Blake.
Ninvalle said the other dates of the preparation programme will be June 23, July 7 and 21 and August 4 and all of these programmes will be held at the Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis Gym.

Meanwhile, the GBA is expecting boxers from St Lucia, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Suriname and, for the first time, French Guiana, Turks & Caicos Islands and Cayman Islands for the Caribbean Championships.
