Nakool Manohar called “Fyah” was on Wednesday  charged with the murder of one
of the fishermen who died in the gruesome April 27th piracy attacks in neighbouring
Suriname.

It is the first time someone has been formally charged with the piracy attacks.

Amidst tension between relatives of the man and those of the missing fishermen ,Manohar appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh   where he was not required to plea to the indictable charge which stated that between April 26th and May 3rd  this year ,he murdered Tiliknauth Mohabir called ‘Caiman’.

He was refused bail and remanded to prison until June 13th when he will make his next appearance. He was also further remanded to the two previous charges of robbery on the high seas committed in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

On Wednesday , the man’s wife and relatives of one of the missing fishermen argued the latter leveled accusations against the other regarding the attacks. The woman was reported to the police at Springlands by the fishermen’s relatives. She was issued a warning by ranks there.

Manohar was considered a key suspect in the gruesome piracy attacks committed on the Guyanese fishermen off the coast of Suriname late in April which left 11 men missing and presumably dead. Several persons survived the attacks while the bodies of several of the men later washed ashore.

Reports are that during interrogation he reportedly confessed to taking part in previous robberies on the high seas.

Earlier this month , Manohar appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates Court  and was not required to plea to two charges relative to the 2015 and 2016 attacks.

After his court appearance , Manohar was handed over back to the police as the investigation continued in the Suriname attacks.

According to reports on May 2, police officers went to the home of the Manohar , at Number 43 Village on the Corentyne and arrested him.

Reports are that man is a close associate of “Sinbad” , who resides in Suriname , and who is being hunted by law enforcement in that country as investigations point to a “revenge act ” which led to the deadly attack on the fishermen on April 27,2018. “Sinbad” is said to be the leader of the group of pirates.

According to sources in Suriname, another sibling of Manohar , one Somnauth Manohar , was murdered at his home in Suriname in March this year .

Sinbad , who is a close associate of the siblings , alleged that the act was committed by fishermen. According to reports he vowed to take revenge and attack fishermen.
