‘Cannabis’ accused put on $200,000 bail

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday released a 19-year-old Linden resident on $200,000 bail for allegedly trafficking in almost two pounds of cannabis.

It is alleged that Junior Wilson of Central Amelia’s Ward, on May 18 at Omai Landing, Essequibo, had 749 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The court heard that on the day in question, Wilson and others were in a motor vehicle which was searched by the police and the cannabis was found in a cooler.

Police Prosecutor Inspector Gordon Mansfield told the court that Wilson gave an oral statement to the police admitting knowledge of the drugs.

Wilson’s attorney Dexter Todd, during his application for bail told the court that his client had no knowledge or possession of the drugs.

The chief magistrate released Wilson on $200,000 bail and transferred the matter to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court for July 17.
