Linden man on attempted murder charge

A Linden man was on Monday charged and remanded to prison by Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Linden Magistrate’s Court for attempted murder and damage to property.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence of attempted murder and was unrepresented. The particulars of the charge state that 41-year-old Leslie Woolford who is a cook, had on the 26th April 2018 around 11:30hrs, in an attempt to murder his partner, 38-year-old Onika Kingston, allegedly doused her with a pot of boiling rice, causing her first and second degree burns to her upper body, including her arms, back and chest.
Woolford was at the time visiting Kingston at her Silver Town, Wismar, home where an argument ensued after which he took the aforementioned action, also damaging Kingston’s property.

The court was told that Kingston’s 19-year-old son was home at the time of the incident. Following the incident, Woolford reportedly ran to the Wismar Police Station and was taken into custody. Kingston, meanwhile, was admitted at the Linden Hospital Complex where she is said to be recovering.

Woolford will return to court on May 25, 2018.
