JEREMY Garrett, the charismatic Chase Academy and Fruta Conquerors 18-year-old defender will, on Tuesday May 1, depart for the USA after receiving a call from Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit, DC United.
“I must give the almighty praise to get a call back from DC United. It’s a joyful feeling for me and the supporters, my school, my family. I’m looking to take this opportunity to not only benefit myself, but also others and I’m looking to make the best of it,” Garrett told Chronicle Sport yesterday.
Garrett had visited the four-time MLS champions last year, but was unsuccessful. However, the Tucville resident was good enough to receive a call for another shot at the ‘big time’ and as such, the player known for his leadership on and off the pitch, is hoping to make the best of things this time around.
“My brand of football is rather simple, but simple and this time I think I’m better prepared and more fit because the last time I was there, it was during the winter and it was a little difficult to adjust; so now I think I’m in a better position to be scouted and get a place on the team,” Garrett said.
Meanwhile, Garrett received a contribution from his school, Chase Academy, with Principal Henry Chase stating: “I’ve known Jeremy for the past four years. He represents, for me, the modern footballer. He has the attributes of what a footballer should have and as a school, we thought it fit to acknowledge him.”
Garrett said he intends to be a good ambassador and show the authorities at DC United that they are many more talented players in Guyana and could assist their club at the various levels.
