An 86- year- old bedridden woman was brutally raped and left in an unconscious state at her Cromarty, East Berbice Corentyne home.

The woman, who resides alone, recalled that in the wee hours of Saturday last, she was awoken by a male who savagely pulled the covers off of her body and pulled off her diapers and raped her until she passed out.

The perpetrator reportedly gained access to the woman’s home through a window at the bedroom where the elderly woman sleeps. He exited the building via the back door.
After regaining consciousness the mother of four managed to call out to one of her sons who lives opposite her home.

The man told this newspaper that he heard the faint call for help and immediately jumped up and ran over to his mother’s home where he found her in a blood soaked bed sheet  with swollen eyes.
The family is calling on the hierarchy of the Guyana Police Force to bring the perpetrator to justice. They contended since the incident the elderly woman is unable to sleep and has been having nightmares.

“ If anyone touches her {she} scream, she is so fragile and scared and wants to know what is happening with the investigation,” a relative told the Guyana Chronicle.
