Supenaam man jailed for narco trafficking

LEONARD Paul, 63, of Supenaam Market Street, Essequibo Coast, was fined $307,000 and sentenced to six years imprisonment for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, when he appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrates’ court on Tuesday.

He was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The charge stated that on April 15 at Supenaam, during a police search on his premises, a quantity of the narcotics was found in his generator room.

Police unearthed 177 grams of cannabis along with nine grams of cocaine in paddy bags. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three years for each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.

Paul was fined $250,000 for the cannabis and $57,000 for the cocaine respectively.
