WITH the aim of improving officiating in Guyana, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will be hosting the world-governing body’s (FIBA) FIBA Regional Referee Training Camp, set for April 19-23.

According to the GABF, the Regional training camp is designed to improve the officiating team in the FIBA National Federations, and identify possible potential prospects at the national level to be future FIBA referees in order to support Licensing in 2019 and facilitating a two-to-six-year planning to scout national talents early.

Participants will include physical education teachers, local referees, commissioners, table officials, coaches and players.

Roberto Vázquez, a FIBA Referee, who officiated at the 2016 Olympic Games and 2014 World Cup, along with Ian Yearwood of the Cayman Islands and Frederick Bow of The Bahamas, will be the facilitators of the programme, which will be staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
