MINISTER of State Joseph Harmon is attending the Conference of Defence Ministers of the Americas, Ad- Hoc Working Group on the Evolving Role of the Armed Forces in Washington DC.

This conference is hosted by the US Department of Defense Perry Centre.
The Ad- Hoc Working Group of the Armed Forces is aimed at facilitating an exchange of best practices along thematic lines that loosely align with the new domains of the armed forces.

It is a space for dialogue, expression of views and approaches, potentially developing languages that could be considered for inclusion in the declaration arising out of the CDEMA and will include presentation from subject matter experts from the region on national approaches to the issue of the evolving roles of the armed forces.

Current transnational and multi-dimensional threats call for armed forces to develop new and creative approaches to strengthen hemispheric security and defence cooperation.
The chief-of-staff of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Brigadier Patrick West is accompanying Minister Harmon at the high-level forum.
