– Barnwell hits century in DCC victory, GNIC beat GYO

OFF-SPINNER Steven Jacobs completed a match-haul of 10-66 as Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) completed a 114-run win over Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) when the latest round in the GCA’s Gise/Star Party Rentals first-division tournament was completed on Sunday at Bourda.

Jacobs took 5-25 in GCC’s second innings. When play began on day two, MSC were dismantled for 102. Renaldo Ali-Mohammed (4-27) and Devon Lord (4-52) did the damage. Carlos La Rose (24), Jacobs (16) and Stephan Browne (14) were the only MSC batsmen to offer any resistance.

With a first-innings lead of 78, GCC were set a relatively small target of 181, but Jacobs spun webs around the hosts’ batsmen for a second time in two days, as GCC were bowled out for 67.

Winston Forrester (25) and Ali-Mohammed (13) were the only two batsmen to have reached double figures. Fellow off-spinner Vishaul Narayan took 2-20. Scores: MSC (199 & 102), GCC 121 & 67.

Over a t the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, skipper Christopher Barnwell stroked an attacking unbeaten 103 to guide DCC to an easy eight-wicket win over Everest Cricket Club (ECC).

Set 193 to win in 18 overs, the hosts reached 194-2 with Barnwell hammering three fours and 12 sixes.

He shared in an unbroken 84-run third-wicket stand with Joshua Persaud (37 not out) to seal the win.

After conceding a 15-run lead, Everest were bowled out for 207 in their second innings with Gudakesh Motie making an enterprising 85 and Tagenarine Chanderpaul 42. Scores: Everest (282 & 207), DCC (297 & 194-2).

At MSC, GNIC recorded a comfortable seven-wicket win over GYO. Off-spinner Gajanan Suknanand claimed his second six-wicket haul to set up the win.

GYO were bowled out for 131 in their second innings. T. Liverpool led the way with 53.

Set 133 to win, GNIC reached 134-3 with Ovid Richardson hitting an unbeaten 56, while Ryan Shun made 60. Scores: GYO (141 & 131), GNIC (139 & 134-3).
