… 17-man squad prepares for Sir Garfield Sobers Int’l Schools tourney:

A 17-MAN cricket squad from Queen’s College is preparing to compete with teams from around the world in the 32nd Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament scheduled for July 9-23 in Barbados.
Queen’s College (QC) had sent a team to this tournament in 2016 and the side fared well against other international teams.

This year, however, the team – with its new manager (school teacher) Mohammed Nasir – is pumped to ‘Take on Bar’ and bring home glory for the school and for the country.
Captain of the QC cricket team and leading run-getter from the 2016 meet, Navindra Persaud, stated adamantly that the team is intent on securing the top position at the end of the tournament.

“We have a balanced team, with everyone from the core of the team having club experience; some with experience playing on the national level and a few who have played for Guyana,” Persaud related.
Additionally, the Under-17 player asserted that the team consists of players with “promising talent” who perform excellently, on a consistent basis.

In the coming months leading up to the Barbados tournament, the team will be focused on honing their skills and amassing the resources that will enable their undertaking.
On Friday, owner of Star Sports located in Enmore, Sheik Mohamed (a former national player), chipped in with a donation towards gear for the players.

The donation, team member and Upper Sixth Form student Ronaldo McGarrell said, will definitely go a far way in supporting the team but additional support is welcome to help offset additional costs.
