US government makes extradition request for New York fugitive

-suspect entered Guyana via Canada 

After being on the run from United States (US) authorities for several years , Troy Anthony Thomas, who was wanted in connection with a 2011 murder in New York , appeared before Senior Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where an extradition application was made.

The man was on Wednesday morning caught in Liliendaal on the East Coast of Demerara by police ranks and he is expected to be extradited soon. At the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court , a US embassy official made the extradition application for the man to fromally charged with murder.

Thomas, 31 of South Ozone Park, Queens, New York was unrepresented and the man told the court that he had no knowledge of the murder . He was remanded to prison until March 26 for report on the extradition.

According to reports on December 11, 2011 the victim , 20-year-old Keith Frank was shot once in the torso in a flash of violence outside a South Richmond Hill party.Frank who moved to Queens from Guyana when he was 12, died exactly two months before his 21st birthday.

The NY Police Department began looking for Thomas in connection with the shooting, however within hours after the incident he allegedly fled the jurisdiction and crossed over to Canada.

In Canada, he used travel documents belonging to a relative and boarded a Caribbean Airlines flight for Guyana before a wanted bulletin was issued by Interpol for his arrest.

On Wednesday morning , police arrested  Thomas’ fiancé, Lolita Callendar called “Lola” a local make-up artiste and social media personality who resides at East Ruimveldt . She is expected to be charged for  harbouring the fugitive.

Callender was also wanted for threatening behavior. She is assisting with the investigation.
