Who are these forked tongues fooling?

Dear Editor,
LISTENING to some of the statements from members of the opposition People’s Progressive Party /Civic (PPP/C), has only served to remind me that some types of government when occupying the seat of state power, are cognisant when they choose to deliberately resort to actions that amount to infringements in numerous ways against the laws and people of this country.
And they do so with great impunity, often with contempt from those on whose behalf they govern.

Take for example, leader of the political opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, when he boldly declared at a few of his press conferences, that it has always been his line that those who steal from the state should be prosecuted.
This has to be one of the biggest laughs, albeit about the very serious issue of state theft, that was born, nurtured, and flourished under his then presidency and government. Is he pretending that he was not aware of what had been taking place under his very eyes and nose when he was Head of State/government?

Such sudden realisation of the need for prosecution is nothing but an insult to this nation that is aware of the deep involvement of Jagdeo’s friends, cronies, and some high state officials and functionaries, some of whom are before the courts at this time.
Another case in this category of sudden realisation and convenience on the part of the PPP/C is the recent media statement by none other than Manzoor Nadir, former Minister of Labour, giving his views on the land-lease issue involving the stakeholders and the Eugene F. Correia International Airport (Ogle International Airport).

Where was Nadir when Jagdeo’s best pal, was given free rein with regard to the monopoly of the nation’s importation for drugs supply? How does he explain the pre-qualification conditions tailor-made for this most “favoured prince”, and reported to have been made privy in advance to him?

Surely, Nadir was in the PPP/C party, as I believe he still is, and government. Where was his voice in support of the other bidders who protested bitterly about such blatant cronyism?

Editor, Nadir is one of this country’s politicians who is least trusted, much less respected; not for what he has done to the TUF as a party, so much did he crave for a cabinet position in the then PPP/C government. It was one of the most disgraceful acts of political selfishness, I submit, ever committed by a Guyanese politician. Who are these forked tongues fooling?
