Farmer seriously injured in Kildonan accident

DEODAT Bissembar, called “Bully”, 40, of Bush Lot Farm, is hospitalised after he was hit by a car on the Kildonan Public Road on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 12:40 hrs. Bissembar, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was riding on the southern side of the public road when he suddenly turned into the path of an oncoming  car HC 5517, which was proceeding east on the northern side of the road.

The impact of the hit flung him off his bicycle, causing him to end up on the parapet.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited persons with blood oozing from his nose and ears and with assistance from the driver, he was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, but was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for further medical evaluation.

According to the driver Sham Beharry Dass of Number 62 Village, he was on his way to Skeldon when the man rode into his path.

“I couldn’t do anything else but apply brakes, cause vehicle was coming on the other side lane… if I did swerve into the next lane it could ah been worse.”

The police arrived on the scene shortly after the accident and cordoned off the area as they launched an investigation.
