Demerara emerges champion of GCB Female Under-19 Tournament

DEMERARA emerged champions of the Guyana Cricket Board Female Inter-County U-19 cricket tournament which concluded on Sunday.

The final was between the GCB’s President XI and Demerara.
GCB’s President XI won the toss and decided to have a bat but were only able to compile a total of 38 runs from their allotted 20 overs.

Sheneta Grimmond top scored with 9 runs and Shakeba Gajnabi scored 3.
Bowling for Demerara, Lovern Welcome and Mandy Mangru picked up 2 for 3 and 4 runs respectively, while Yogeeta Balkishun and Cherry Ann Fraser also collected a wicket each.
Demerara went in to bat but fell short of attaining their target by 1 run as the team was all out for 37 runs.

Balkishun top scored with 11 and Mangru supported with 9 runs.
The GCB President XI restrained the Demerara team from attaining their mega total with the batting order falling cheaply with six players failing to score.

Kassica Munroe collected four wickets for 11 runs while she gained support from La Fona Gilgeous and Grimmond who collected 2 wickets for 10 and 3 runs separately.
GCB’s President XI won the match by 1 run but Demerara won the tournament on a NRR (net run rate) basis at the end of the tournament.
