It was a phantasmagoria of colours on Thursday when the Ministry of Natural Resources launched its 2018 Mash band at the Sophia Exhibition Centre.
Guyanese are no strangers to colours and excitement on February 23, but this year the ministry has promised to tantalise the minds of onlookers during the celebration of Mashramani 2018.

“We got it,” said junior subject Minister, Simona Broomes during her remarks at the launch of the ministry’s Mash band. Persons who choose to the join the ministry’s band will celebrate with them under the theme, “Guyana beckons – from potential to prosperity.”
The minister, who set the stage with her vitality, said there is much more in store for Guyanese next Friday.
In addition to the fun and excitement, Guyana will also be celebrating its 48th Anniversary as a Republic.

Minister Broomes said the ministry’s band will be adding flair to the patriotic celebrations, with their band standing out during the float parade.
“Come out and join us… we have the best band on the road and we will be leading by example on Mashramani,” she said.
The minister said they performed well last year, but this year they are going to be bigger and better.

One of the most significant aspects of their band would be their costumes, designed by local designer, Neilson Nurse.
Nurse explained that the outfit is black and gold, representing the existing economy and the expected boom in the gold and oil and gas industries.
