GAP backs gov’t on border controversy

THE Guyana Action Party (GAP) has declared its full support for the Government of Guyana in its quest to nullify Venezuela’s spurious claim of Essequibo as its territory.

In a release, the party said “we note that many of our hinterland communities are located in this area. Their lands, homes, and livelihoods are under constant threat. It is time to remove the dark clouds of uncertainty.”

GAP said it has noted that through continuous, wise, and steadfast approaches by government, the United Nations (UN) secretary-general (SG) has now moved the issue forward from the Good Offices Process to that of referring it to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“We call upon our government to continue to make preparations to ensure that our country gets the best representation at all levels. We ask that all citizens and organisations stand together in a unified manner to support our government on this issue. It is time for us to show the world that we are One People, One Nation, with One Destiny.”
