A senior police officer died following an accident  on Tuesday afternoon at Lethem in the Rupununi .

Dead is Inspector Eon Welch who was stationed at the Lethem Police Station . Four other ranks , including the driver of the vehicle and three mounted branch officers were injured following the accident which occurred close to the Pirara bridge.

Reports are that around 1700hrs the lawmen were returning to Lethem from Santa Fe when the accident occurred.
