Retraction

The Guyana Chronicle wishes to retract an article published today , Wednesday in our newspaper headlined: “Criminal charges for Coen Jackson…DPP recommends criminal charges against Bishops’ teacher”

The information for this article was provided by a staff of the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who is now denying ever doing so.

The Guyana Chronicle nevertheless, unreservedly retracts the erroneous article and offers our sincerest apology to Mr Jackson, his lawyers and everyone else involved in this matter.

Below is the full statement issued by the DPP

Pursuant to an article published on page 3 in the Guyana Chronicle datedtoday Wednesday January 3L, 20L8 headlined, “Criminal charges forCoen Jackson…..DPP recommends criminal charges against Bishops’teacher” please be advised this advice WAS NOT given bythe Office ofthe Director of Public Prosecutions to the named newspaper and orreporter.The DPP’s Office wishes to state that the police file with regards to theCoen Jackson matter was received on December 8, 2017.

lt was givendue legal attention and was returned on December 18, 2O17 to theGuyana Police Force with legal advice for the police to conductfurtherinvestigations and upon the completion of the further investigation, thefile is to be returned to the DPP’s office for further legal advice.

“The published article in today’s edition of the Guyana chronicle is totally false and misleading.” We strongly urge the Guyana Chronicle to issue a retraction of its published article together with an unequivocal apology to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

  1. Since the damage is already done, who pays for the ‘public’ to refrain from ‘ever’ remembering such reporting?
