Bandits attack Blind Institute

Armed bandits attacked and robbed two persons who reside at the Guyana Society for the Blind on High Street , Georgetown on Tuesday night.

Reports indicate that 22-year-old Musa Haynes was standing in the compound when he heard footsteps approaching and two male voices demanded that he handed over his valuables.

The ruthless bandits then attacked 61-year-old Sylvan Jacobs while demanding his valuables. The victims told police that the bandits were attempting to break into a grilled area of the building but the noise stopped after the robbers left the institute.

Meanwhile, complaints were made by the institute about the treatment the matter received from the police.

“A call was made to Impact Patrol after the 10 minutes ordeal only to have no visit from the police. A CID officer came after a member made direct contact with him on his personal phone,” a member of the society said.
In addition , on Wednesday morning he said two detectives visited the institute to talk to the persons who were at the scene of the robber.  The man said the officers took no pictures, finger prints or notes.

“The response given when asked about the lack of interest was that a crime scene team will visit during the day. I am patiently awaiting the crime scene team and the outcome of the investigation,” the man stated.
