Fraser shines at AAG Second Developmental Meet

LINDEN’S Compton Caesar opened his season with a second place, behind Police’s Kevin Abbensetts in the men’s 80m heats, last Sunday, ending overall in third place after Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Davin Fraser took the win in the final by time race, at the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Second Developmental Meet at the National Track and Field Centre.

Fraser went on to take a hat-trick of wins after he also championed the men’s 150m and 300m.
In the men’s 80m Fraser clocked the winning time of 8.51 seconds, in the first heat of the day. It trumped the 8.55 seconds that Abbensetts clocked in the second heat where he outclassed Caesar, who touched the line at 8.61 seconds.

Fraser again proved to be speedier against Abbensetts in the 150m dash. After Abbensetts won the first heat with a time of 15.76 seconds, Fraser followed in heat two with a 15.42 seconds run to relegate Abbensetts to second place yet again. Hopetown Flames’ Titus Webster finished second behind Fraser with a time of 15.83 seconds, which put him in third place.

Fraser took 34.50 seconds to win the men’s 300m, where GDF’s Dequan Vancooten was second, clocking 35.17 seconds.
In the middle distance 600m, Police’s Quacy Morian pulled off an upset over Running Brave’s Cleveland Thomas with only milliseconds to spare. Morian clocked 1:24.00s, crossing the line just ahead of Thomas who was in at 1:24.72s.

However, Morian’s endurance was not enough for the longer 1200m, which went to his club mate Anfernee Headecker, with a time of 3:08.76s.
Morian found himself all the way down in third, after the next two spots went to GDF’s Marlon Nicholson (3:12.42s), and Police’s Salim Yussuf (3:24.89s).

Over in the Boys’ 17-19 600m, GPF’s Samuel Lynch prevailed over RB’s Brian Romain, clocking 1:22.27s. Linden’s Daniel Melville managed third with a time of 1:30.92s.
Murphy Nash won the Boys’ 14-16 600m in 1:27.07s.
Out on the field, national men’s javelin record holder Leslain Baird was in fine form as he flung out a 73.30m toss, and GDF’s Tortque Boyce made it to 2m over the bar in the Boys’ 17-19 high jump.

On the distaff side, junior athlete Kenisha Phillips made a 2:00.16s run in the Girls’ 17-19 600m.
Kezra Murray went head-to-head against RB’s Maria Urquhart in the women’s open 1000m and came up short, as Urquhart trotted in with a time of 3:05.18s. Murray clocked 3:08.41s.

GPF’s Odessa France ruled the Girls’ 13-and-under sprints winning the 80m (10.65s), 150m (19.56s), and 300m (43.57s).
