Trio to spend Christmas behind bars

–for robbery under arms

THREE men were on Friday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Leron Daly for robbing three female passengers and the driver of a Route 42 minibus at Middle Street, McDoom, East Bank Demerara earlier this week.

Anthony Damion, Eon Trotman and Kevin Abrams have been jointly charged with four counts of armed robbery, but denied each charge.
Particulars of the first charge state that on December 13, at McDoom Public Road, while being in the company of each other and armed with a gun, robbed Winnet Francis of a bag and purse valued $6,500.
It is further alleged that during the same incident, they robbed the bus driver Ryan Thomas of $4,000.

They have also been charged for robbing Shidea Aziez of a cellphone and other items amounting to $43,0000, and Liloutie Persaud of a cellphone valued $55,000.
Trotman was separately charged for snatching Oslin Haynes’s handbag and cellphone valued $187,000 on December 10 at the said McDoom Public Road. He pleaded not guilty.

Damion was separately charged for being in possession of a .38 Taurus revolver and four live rounds of .38 ammunition on December 13 at Agricola, East Bank Demerara, when he was not a licensed firearm holder. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.
According to reports, on December 13, the trio entered the minibus at the Stabroek Market Square at around 10:00hrs and as the vehicle approached McDoom, they requested that the vehicle stop at Middle Street for them to disembark.

One of the suspects upon exiting the vehicle, drew a firearm and demanded that the driver and the passengers hand over their valuables.
However, swift action by the police led to the trio’s arrest at a house on Second Street, Agricola.
