-Prime Minister Nagamootoo to attend Marriott event

 

MINISTER of Labour Keith Scott on Thursday morning met with the Director of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Claudia Coenjaerts, and her delegation from the Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, ahead of the launching of the programme at the Marriott Hotel today

During opening remarks, Assistant Chief Labour Officer, Karen Vansluytman-Corbin said the delegation met with them for the launching of the declaration of the Decent Work Country programme which will be launched at the Marriott Hotel officially today.

She related that they would be presenting the reports of the renewal environment for sustainable enterprises after a culmination of a series of meetings and consultations held with the tripartite constituencies in Guyana.

Vansluytman-Corbin said at this point where the ministry will be launching the Decent Work Country programme, a meeting with the ILO team was necessary.

ILO Director Coenjaerts said in remarks that they were looking forward to the launching today which was a product of a lot of work with the ministry and social partners.

She added that they will use the programme to ensure further development of Guyana in which the Decent Work agenda plays a very central role and there are three priorities that will be addressed during the launching of the programme.

Coenjaerts said the priorities will address improving the working conditions for employees and to ensure that workers’ rights are protected.

She noted that the other priorities will relate to the renewal environment for sustainable enterprises in which it will address the issue of creating good environment for the people of Guyana as it relates to work.

Coenjaerts stated that they will address the need for both workers and employers to work together with governments in finding solutions to problems in the work environment.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo will be at this event at the Marriott Hotel, along with the stakeholders and the ministries to see how they can implement the priorities, she added.
