THE December 26 Sons of Champions boxing card will attract the cream of young pugilists from Guyana and will deliver a knockout blow.

That is the belief of promoter Seon Bristol who has collaborated with the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) to stage the card on a day traditionally set aside for boxing in Guyana.
“The quality of fighters and matching of fighters definitively state that Guyana will be having a present after Christmas. It is going to be nothing less than a classical boxing experience for fans,” Bristol said in a telephone interview from New York.

The Sons of Champions has ten fights carded. Youth Commonwealth Games silver medallist `Lightning’ Keevin Allicock is expected to lead the pool of talented local fighters. Allicock was named Best Boxer at last month’s Terrence Ali National Open competition.
Moving up from flyweight, the 18-year-old orthodox fighter barged into the bantamweight division where he was able to dethrone Clairmont `Kartel’ Gibson to take the national title.
Quizzed on the possible matchups, Bristol said that the entire card would be made public on Friday. “I can tell you that there will be a few surprises. We have the best of the best coming up against the best of the rest. Ten fights and 30 rounds of boxing. It will be a knockout.”

Keevin Allicock is expected to lead the pool of talented local fighters on the Sons of Champions boxing card.

The card was named Sons of Champions as offspring of former notable fighters would be on show. Bristol signalled out Alex Murray, the son of former world-rated welterweight Andrew Murray as one of the elite fighters set to lace up gloves.
“We are exhibiting pedigree. Andrew Murray was an excellent boxer. His son Alex is just as good as his father was at the same age. We will also have Desmond Amsterdam and Colin Lewis doing battle,” Bristol added.

Both boxers won gold medals at the last Caribbean Championship with Lewis being crowned national light welterweight champion following a two-round destruction of Diwani Lampkin in the National Open finals last month.
Sons of Champions is scheduled for the National Gymnasium and will see the return of boxing on the said day following years of absence.
