–President urges in Youman Nabi message

The Cooperative Republic of Guyana joins in celebration with our Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of Eid Milad un Nabi/Youman Nabi, the sacred festival of the observance of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, who is recognised among the faithful as the as the final messenger of God to mankind.

Eid Milad un Nabi/Youman Nabi, which is celebrated across the world, is an opportunity to reflect on the lessons of the struggle for justice, peace and equality. We are reminded of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings, which were founded on respect, compassion, love and concern.  Those teachings provide an important lesson for us as members of a multicultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious society even as we work to deepen social cohesion.

The quest for national unity is founded on the principle that every Guyanese has the right to equal access to the nation’s resources, to justice and to a peaceful co-existence.  We use this occasion of Eid Milad un Nabi/Youman Nabi to recommit to those principles.

As we reflect on the life of Prophet Muhammad let is personally commit to fulfilling his legacy of peace and harmony.  I extend greetings to all Guyanese, especially Muslims at this time of happy celebration and reflection.
