Editor’s note

THIS week, we give much-needed attention to the local theatre industry, following the recently staged National Drama Festival which lasted from November 18-22. The local festival- short as it may be- is the one time of year when thespians are given the chance to showcase their creativity and dynamism through theatrical expression.

It is here, too, when the dark horses in theatre shine their brightest, and bring the local audience a wider variety than the usual plays they are accustomed to seeing year-round. But despite the quality of this festival, support is generally lacking, resulting in insufficient advertising, access to resources, limited preparations, and low audience turn-out, among other challenges.

Yet, the quality of some of these plays and the acting that helps to bring them to life, are constant. For this reason, we provide just a taste of what you may have missed at this underrated event, and discuss the concerns of some of the participants and what they feel is needed to help keep theatre alive in Guyana, as well as the expectations and views of the coordinators. These and other stories combine to make this week’s Pepperpot Magazine and we hope you enjoy it.
