Gang-of-four remanded

–for spate of armed robberies

A FOUR-member gang was on Monday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Judy Latchman for a series of robbery-related charges.

Carl Hilliman,19, of Regent Street, Bourda; cousins, Kristoff Watts, 20, and Leon Gittens, 21, both of Cowan Street, Kingston; and Kwasie McPhoy, 20, also of Kingston were jointly charged for robbing Asif Mohammed of a quantity of cash, electronics and personal items valued $2.2M, while making use of personal violence. They all denied the charge.

Hilliman, Gittens and McPhoy were also jointly charged for being armed with an ice pick on July 30 at America and Longden Streets, Georgetown and robbing Ryan Mohabir of a cell-phone, wallet and cash totalling $26,000. The trio denied this charge.
It was further alleged that the trio, on July 25, at the same America and Longden Streets robbed one Carl Chung of a cell-phone, and local and foreign currency totaling $115,200. They denied this charge too.

Hilliman and Gittens were separately charged for the offence which alleged that on October 28 at Croal Street, they robbed Royaita Subacie of an iPhone and other items totalling $272,000. They both denied the charge.
Hilliman was further charged for robbing Danniram Rampandis of an iPhone, wallet and other items totalling $166,000, and Suraj Gocharran of a phone and other items totaling $163,000 on September 24 at Sheriff Street, Campbellville.

He pleaded not guilty to both of these charges.
Magistrate Latchman remanded all four men to prison after Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of all the charges. The matter has been adjourned to December 4.
